'' Metrosideros sclerocarpa '', commonly known as the Mountain Rose, is a flowering plant in the myrtle family. The specific epithet comes from the Greek ''scleros'' (“hard”) and ''karpos'' (“fruit”), with reference to the woody fruit. ==Description== It is a small tree, growing to 10 m in height. The leathery ovate to elliptic leaves are 30–65 mm long and 17–32 mm wide. The bright red brush-like flowers have filaments 15–20 mm long. The fruits are 6–7 mm long. The flowering season is from December to February.〔
